New Year's Resolve

This is the outside of enough. George is being quite insufferable and I can see that my only recourse is to set up my own establishment.

We do not rub together at all well - he is insistent on both apostrophising my status as an Ape-leader whilst at the same time being determined to restrict my behaviour to that of a green debutante. It will not do.

Thankfully, Grandmama's legacy cannot be touched, and the investments in the four percents affords me sufficient income for an independence.

It is certain that I will require a companion, to afford myself the required respectability. Hades take the morals of this age when a man may do as he pleases and a woman cannot even pursue her own path without hurdling all the obstacles that are strewn before her.

I am determined to be an inventress of note; if I cannot manage that under my brother's roof, I will do so under my own.

I will remove to the London house as soon as I can arrange chaperonage. Once there, I will get Pocklington to do the necessary regarding the sourcing of both my own property and the equipment I shall require for my experiments. Marianne can help me regarding a companion - I'm sure she will do so both out of respect for her husband and determination to keep little Harry's favourite aunt on side.

I will miss Marianne, but cannot see her continue to play peacemaker betwixt my brother and I - we both have our father's stubbornness and it hurts her to see us constantly at outs with each other.

That's settled then. Tomorrow I take the first step on my future's path. An ideal start to this new year.
